Once home to infamous press baron Lord Beaverbrook, Cherkley Court, in the rolling beauty of the Surrey Hills, has been revived and restored into the luxury destination it once was.

The stately homes of Britain are too often left to atrophy, and their original purpose as houses of leisure often unable to evolve in line with modern day tastes and public interests. However, with planning permission and the final finishes to the golf course and spa underway, “Beaverbrook” as it is now formally known, is setting out to be one of the top 100 golf courses in the world, as well as a countryside retreat for city workers.

With a subtle integration of modern facilities into the historic site, and minimal external modification, the development includes:

  • conversion of the existing cottages into guest houses

  • renovation of the coach house to provide a fitness centre

  • installation of an underground spa

  • creation of a Golf Clubhouse

All of the above echoes the design of the periodic agriculture buildings, with an eclectic contemporary touch.
