Now known as Positive East, the Global Care Centre is a day care facility specially designed to cater for the increasing number of people living and working with HIV/ AIDS in East London and the City.
The brief was developed in consultation with both the client and user groups, with the priority being to be able to provide a variety of services and facilities in an attractive, non-institutional environment.
We installed a column of glass tiles at the entrance, bringing daylight in, and refracting the building's internal glow onto the pavement at night.
It also occupies the former Mile End swimming baths in Mile End Road, a building provided by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
